An English magazine once ran a competition offering a prize for the best parody of Graham Greene's work. Shortly after the prize-winning entry was published, a curious letter appeared from the author himself.

While he was overjoyed that Mr. John Smith had won the contest, Green felt that John Doakes and William Jones were also deserving of prizes. Greene himself had sent in all three entries -- passages from earlier works which he had considered unfit for publication.
