One day, Walter Savage Lander's cook invoked his master's wrath with the presentation of a rather mediocre meal. When Lander, incensed, threw him through an open window, the cook landed in a flower bed and broke his arm. Lander later lamented his error: "Good God!" he cried. "I forgot the violets!"
