One day the young Tennyson, suffering from a painful case of hemorrhoids, visited a proctologist. So successful was the doctor's treatment that Tennyson was subsequently untroubled for many decades.

After becoming a famous poet and peer, however, he suffered a relapse and revisited the same proctologist. Oddly, the man seemed not to recognize his famous patient -- until he bent over for examination, whereupon the proctologist exclaimed: "Ah, Tennyson!"
