While shooting the softball scene in Runaway Bride, Tommy Hines was required to bump chests with Julia Roberts. Director Garry Marshall was once jokingly asked whether Hines had requested many re-takes.

"Two," Marshall replied. "The first time he got so nervous he fell down. Julia told him not to be afraid, just to jump up and hit her high. He said, 'Yes ma'am.' Julia was upset by that. She said, 'Don't say yes ma'am. It makes me feel old.' But he kept doing it. I told him, 'Stop calling her ma'am.' He turned to me and said, 'Yes sir.'"
