Harold Clurman was a famously active sleeper. Robert Lewis was once graciously invited to stay overnight by Clurman. Having accepted, Lewis was alarmed to find that, throughout the night, his host produced a variety of dramatic sounds -- including clicking teeth, angry cries, and affectionate moans -- in his sleep.
On another occasion, Stella Adler woke Clurman up. "Harold," she said, "don't sleep like a great man. Just sleep!"
