Young Edison

In the spring of 1869, Thomas Edison, broke and jobless, visited a friend who worked at the Gold & Stock Co. (a telegraph company which provided gold quotes from the trading taking place on the New York Stock Exchange floor to subscribers around the city). When the central transmitting device broke down, causing pandemonium, Edison stepped in, fixed the machine -- and was hired on the spot.

[Fred Ott was immortalized by Thomas Edison, who filmed him sneezing in the first copyrighted film in history. The fastest recorded sneeze was 166.7 kilometres per hour (giving it the same force as a Category 2 hurricane).]
