Despite his popular success as a performer, Jacques Thibaud was often teased about his limited repertoire (constrained in part by his preoccupation with fine wine and women). While conversing with Merit Rosenthal in the green room after a concert one evening, Thibaud was approached by a young fan bearing an autograph book. "What shall I write?" Thibaud mused. "Why not," Rosenthal interjected, "list your repertoire?"
