Candidate Adlai Stevenson

While campaigning against Dwight Eisenhower in 1956, Adlai Stevenson addressed a group of children: "How many children in this audience," he asked, "would like to be a candidate for President of the United States?"

Seeing a number of hands shoot up, Stevenson continued with another question: "How many candidates for President of the United States," he asked, "would like to be children again?" -- and with a curious smile he raised his own hand!
