One day, Mel Brooks met an enchanting woman named Anne Bancroft on the set of a television talk show. Brooks, completely smitten, later paid one of the show's (female) staffers to tell him where Bancroft was planning to have dinner that night. Sure enough, Brooks showed up at the same restaurant -- and "accidentally" bumped into her.
[The happy couple was later married at New York City Hall -- where a passer-by served as their witness.]
[Because she had encouraged him to turn The Producers into a Broadway musical, Brooks called Bancroft his "Obi-Wan Kenobi".]
