Kevin Costner: Perfectionist

Even in his early days as a struggling actor, Kevin Costner always marched to the beat of his own drum. While appearing opposite Jessica Lange in 1982's Frances, he refused to utter a line of dialogue on the grounds that it did not ring true for his character ("Man In Alley").

That handful of words (his only line in the film) would have earned him a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) card -- a prerequisite for the union auditions which had eluded him for the previous five years.

[Despite being only 5'2" until his mid-20s, Costner was named the best football, baseball, and basketball star in his high school.]
