Thora Birch's parents, expecting a boy, planned to name the new child Thor, in honor of the Norse God of thunder and lightning. When the shocking truth about the child's gender was revealed, however, her parents simply feminized the name and call her Thora.

Some time later, the odd couple managed to conceive a boy -- and promptly christened him... Bolt Birch!

[Birch, who appeared in one of the "classic" California raisin commercials at the age of four, had her professional life plotted out by the age of nine: she planned to become a director by 24, spend a year ice skating and a year as a policewoman, and then become a singer. (L.A. Times)]
