Barbara Bush Dubious Compliment

Barbara Bush (who had schools, hospitals, and streets named in her honor) once recalled receiving a touching letter from a six-year-old girl. "Dear Barbara," it read. "Great news. I've named my heifer after you!"

[Barbara continued to receive periodic updates about the progress of the cow, which was later entered in a cattle competition in Houston. Barbara was thrilled to learn that she had finished eighth. "Can you imagine the headlines?" she said. "'Barbara Bush Wins Fat Stock Show'!"]

[Trivia: "George Bush just became president," Richard Belzer joked in 1988, "and his wife's already on the dollar bill."]
