Pen Pals?In 2001, President George W. Bush hosted a White House dinner in honor of a group of Hall of Fame baseball players. Bush, it seemed, had a great deal in common with Yogi Berra (famed, of course, for his verbal bloopers):
"He's been an inspiration to me not only because of his baseball skills but, of course, for the enduring mark he left on the English language," Bush jokingly declared. "Some of the press corps even think he might be my speechwriter!"
[Among Bush's classic bloopers? "Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream," "Drug therapies are replacing a lot of medicines as we used to know it" and "I think we ought to raise the age at which juveniles can have a gun."]
