McCarthy vs Hellman

Mary McCarthy crusaded against inaccuracy, pretension, equivocation, dishonesty - and bad writing. In a famous appearance on "The Dick Cavett Show" one day, she declared of Lillian Hellman that "every word she says is a lie, including 'and' and 'the'."

[Hellman later sued.]
