Whenever he found himself working in England, director Alfred Hitchcock would conclude his afternoon tea on the set by throwing the teacup over his shoulder. How did this odd ritual develop?
"Once, years ago," according to writer Russell Maloney, "he threw the teacup over his shoulder out of high spirits. It made a property man laugh and Hitchcock continued the practice to please him and subsequent property men."
