Television and movie personality Mike Myers speaks about his family’s military heritage during the 2017 Invictus Games opening press conference
Incredibly, Mike Myers, the youngest of three boys, was considered the least comical growing up. His mother was particularly skeptical of his career aspirations. "'Oh Michael, don't try to be funny... Do you know how there's funny people?'" he once recalled her asking. "'Well you're not one of them... Would all the funny Myers boys take one step forward? Not so fast, Michael...'"
Mike later recalled the first time he managed to make "the house" laugh (at 11, after years of trying) as one of the greatest moments of his life.
["Austin Powers was born out of trying to celebrate my father's life," Myers once recalled. "My father's favorites were mine—Peter Sellers, Monty Python, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore... My dad was a guy who loved to be silly; he had a highly-prized sense of humor. When I would bring friends home to play table hockey in the basement, if my dad didn't think they were funny, he wouldn't let them in the house: 'They can't come around,' he'd say. 'They're not bloody funny!'" "I still believe," Myers once remarked, "that at any time the no-talent police will come and arrest me." ]
