Paul Latham Solves A Mother-In-Law Problem
Paul Latham (1905–1955) was a British Conservative Party politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Scarborough and Whitby constituency from 1931 to 1941.  "When he bought Herstmonceux Castle," Peter Coats writes in Of Kings and Cabbages, "his future mother-in-law eyed a nearby residence (a mock Tudor half-timbered cottage) with considerable interest and remarked that it would do very well for her as it was so near. Paul immediately had it demolished."

The famed theater manager Lilian Baylis vehemently discouraged romances between performers in her companies. When a young actor and actress visited her office hand in hand one day, Baylis ignored them for some time before looking up from her desk. "Well," she finally asked, "what is it?" "We're in love, Miss Baylis," the actor tentatively began, "and we—ah—want to get married." "Go away," Baylis barked. "I haven't got time to listen to gossip!"

In October 2003, in a bid to discourage smoking, the British PR firm Connectpoint erected a smokers' booth outside its Manchester office—in the shape of a coffin.
