While walking her aging dogs, a Bichon named Anastasia and a Maltese named Nicolas, to the vet one day, Bif Naked was horrified when, distracted by Nicolas trying to gum someone, she failed to notice that Anastasia was consuming "a great amount of feces that was left on the sidewalk." "She had it all over her little fluffy white hairy face," Bif later recalled. "She stunk to high heaven." Because she had some in her mouth, Bif started "digging and digging" to get it out. She soon found herself covered in feces, with nothing in her purse to clean up with. As they finally approached the door of the vet, a disheveled man, who had been following them for a while, approached. "He ...

Alexander Fleming's famous discovery of penicillin at St Mary's Hospital in 1928 was occasioned by a speck of penicillium notatum mold, from a mycology lab one floor below, fortuitously contaminating an uncovered culture plate while he was away on vacation. Touring a modern research laboratory many years later, Fleming commented with interest upon the dust-free, air-conditioned environment in which its technicians labored. "What a pity you did not have a place like this to work in," his guide remarked. "Who can tell what you might have discovered in such surroundings." Fleming's reply? "Not penicillin!" [Moldy bread was first used to treat infections by the ancient Egyptians. Indeed, Fleming was not even the first person to describe the antibacterial properties ...

One evening during the production of The Cowboys (1972), John Wayne and director Mark Rydell got together for a few rounds of tequila at a local bar. Wayne excused himself to visit the restroom. When Wayne returned, Rydell could not help but notice that one side of his pants was sopping wet. "Oh, this always happens to me," Wayne explained: A fan, it seemed, had turned to him at the urinal and exclaimed: "You're John Wayne!" [Fun fact: Wayne once appeared on "Laugh-In"... in a (dry) pink fluffy bunny suit.]

Steven Wright once developed a crush on a dental hygienist. He soon hatched a plan to spend as much time with her as possible. The plan? While sitting in the waiting room, he ate an entire box of Oreo cookies.

Tainan, Taiwan
In 2004, a "mishap" occurred as a dead 60-ton sperm whale was being towed through the streets of Taipei. As The Daily Express later reported: It exploded, covering nearby people, cars, and shops in blood and guts. The whale was being delivered to a research centre near the southwestern city of Tainan. People walking by were splattered with blood. Body parts were scattered across the road when the whale exploded. "This blood and other stuff that blew out on the road is disgusting, and the smell is really awful." A marine biologist blamed the explosion at the time on pressure from gases which had built up in the mammal as it began to decompose. Local residents wore masks as they ...

Jill Hennessy: "I can't get enough of Thanksgiving. [But] one year, as I was taking the turkey out of the oven, it fell on the floor. I had witnesses, so it was hard to hide it. My dad and my sister couldn't stop laughing. I did the quick rinse-off and made it to the table. I was like: 'We give thanks that the turkey wasn't completely destroyed on the linoleum.'"

On their second stint in Hamburg, the Beatles played (and stayed) at Star-Club, overseen by a tough new manager, Manfred Weissleder. "I always want you should enjoy yourselves in the Star Club," he warned the lads, "but if you make shit I send you home." Among Weissleder's employees was a bouncer named Horst Fascher. A former championship boxer who had spent time in prison for manslaughter, Fascher took no guff from anyone. On one occasion, when John Lennon called him a Nazi, Fascher retaliated by marching him to a bathroom and urinating all over him.

One day, a teenaged Abraham Lincoln noticed two barefoot boys playing in some mud. As a gag, he brought them into his family's home, held them upside down, and had them "walk" across the ceiling, leaving a trail of muddy brown footprints. Lincoln had a good laugh when his parents got home, until he discovered his punishment: repainting the ceiling.

Rio Bravo DVD
Rio Bravo DVD
One day on the set of Rio Bravo, Ricky Nelson made the mistake of turning eighteen. Dean Martin and John Wayne produced a curious birthday present: a 300-pound sack of manure. Sure enough, the manure was emptied on the ground and Wayne and Martin grabbed Nelson and threw him in.
