While walking her aging dogs, a Bichon named Anastasia and a Maltese named Nicolas, to the vet one day, Bif Naked was horrified when, distracted by Nicolas trying to gum someone, she failed to notice that Anastasia was consuming "a great amount of feces that was left on the sidewalk." "She had it all over her little fluffy white hairy face," Bif later recalled. "She stunk to high heaven." Because she had some in her mouth, Bif started "digging and digging" to get it out. She soon found herself covered in feces, with nothing in her purse to clean up with. As they finally approached the door of the vet, a disheveled man, who had been following them for a while, approached. "He ...

Following a performance of Peter Pan one evening, a small boy who had been given a seat in the author's box was asked which bit he had liked the most. "What I think I liked best," the child replied, "was tearing up the program and dropping the bits on people's heads!" [This was one of Barrie's favorite stories.]

Nevada State Senator Zeb Kendall was a fixture at California race tracks and was highly respected for his knowledge of horse racing. After visiting the Bay Meadows Race Track one day, he returned to his apartment at San Francisco's St. Francis Hotel. As he was late for dinner, to placate his angry wife, Kendall opened his bag and displayed $80,000 worth of gold and bank notes which he had won that afternoon. Mrs. Kendall response was not what he expected. She grabbed Kendall's bag, went to an open window, and emptied its contents into the street below. [The hotel attendants recovered most of the money.]

Seeking "Zen time" one evening, radio shock jock Howard Stern went for dinner with a friend at a SoHo restaurant called Honmura An. When a woman passing by on the street recognized him, she decided to mark the occasion—by promptly dropping her pants and defecating on the sidewalk. Stern, in a very un-Zen-like moment, excitedly banged on the window—and was asked never to return to Honmura An again. ["In New York," David Letterman once said during Mardi Gras, "we don't need an excuse to get blind drunk and urinate in the streets!" Honmura An, the first top notch soba restaurant outside Japan, closed in 2007.]

A riot at Taubate Prison in 2018
A riot at Taubate Prison in 2018
In August, 2002, Brazilian Judge Sueli Zeraick Armani de Menezes visited Taubate Prison, a maximum security facility in Sao Paulo state for a routine inspection. Everything went swimmingly until Menezes arrived at a guard tower, where he was astonished to find that the inmates were being supervised by a scarecrow dressed as a prison guard. Prison security chief Lamarque Monteiro acknowledged that the incident was "really serious." Indeed. Two years earlier, an inmate uprising involving dozens of hostages left nine prisoners dead.

Rasputin And The Empress
Rasputin And The Empress
During the production of Rasputin and the Empress, MGM, seeking to avoid a lawsuit, fictionalized the role of Prince Yusupov in the film, giving his character a fabricated name: Prince Chegodieff. Yusupov, hardly fooled by the transparent ruse, sued the studio in a London court and was awarded a sizable judgment. Shortly thereafter, the studio was sued again and another sizable judgment awarded to another plaintiff. The second plaintiff? The real Prince Chegodieff.

The famed brain surgeon Bronson Ray was out for a stroll one day when he saw a boy on a scooter smash headfirst into a tree. Realizing that the boy was seriously injured, Ray ordered a bystander to call an ambulance before turning his attention to the injured boy. As he began to administer first aid, a second youngster nudged his way through the growing crowd. "I'd better take over now, sir," the lad declared. "I'm a Boy Scout and I know first aid!"

Gene Baylos in The Hollywood Palace, 1965 (Wikipedia photo)
Comedian Gene Baylos once took a memorable trip to crime-infested Atlantic City. "I was at a bar and a tough looking guy walked up to me and said, 'Hey buddy, you want to buy a ring?'" Baylos recalled. "I asked him what it looked like. He said, 'Don't look now but the guy next to you is wearing it.'"
